Our South African office is a huge part of our company and the culture we have at bOnline. Today, on the 21st March, is the South African Human Rights Day, a day of celebrating equality and democracy.

Globally, Human Rights Day is celebrated on 10 December, but South Africa has its own version of this day, celebrated on 21 March every year.

The day is linked with the events of Sharpeville on 21 March 1960. Almost 70 people died and 180 more were wounded when police opened fire on a peaceful crowd that was protesting the country’s pass laws. South Africa has come a long way since 1960. It is now a fully fledged democracy and human rights are entrenched in its internationally respected Constitution.

It’s important to remember the events that make up our history, and especially for those in our South Africa office. Happy Human Rights day to all our readers.
